MANOR PARK SCHOOL & NURSERY GOVERNORS
Simon Cotterill (Head Teacher)
I have been the Head Teacher of Manor Park since September 2016. Previous to working in education, I worked for 14 years in the Insurance and Finance industry. I began teaching in 2006 and after completing my year as a graduate teacher in Stoke-on-Trent; I moved to teach in Newcastle, Staffordshire. During that time, I worked as an assistant head teacher for 4 years and then moved to Cheshire East authority as a Deputy Head Teacher.
I am passionate about education, helping all children to achieve their full potential. I believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that children have the best education possible, as they will only get one chance. I also feel strongly about developing the whole child, preparing them for the wider world by providing them with the skills and attributes they will need to prosper.
Geoff Mason -Community Governor - (FGB Chairperson & Resouces Committee Chairperson)
Over a career in IT, Banking and Consultancy, I have learned much about management, governance and leadership, and for many years I have coached and taught on these topics in industry and at Sixth Form Colleges and Universities.
My children and some of my grandchildren have attended various schools in Knutsford, and benefitted from the opportunities available to them. I want to help ensure that all the children at Manor Park have a great educational experience, with fantastic opportunities, and in the future can look back with pride and fondness at their time spent there.
Stewart Gardiner – Local Authority Governor
In addition to being a school Governor I am also a Cheshire East Councillor and serve on Knutsford Town Council. I consider that this helps with liaison between the school and the Local Education Authority.
I have served on the Governing body of Manor Park for eight years and also have more than ten years’ experience as a Governor of a school in Hampshire.
Although I have no children of my own I recognise the importance of education in giving all children the best start in life.
Patrick Jones – Co-opted Governor–(Learning and Teaching Chairperson)
I have taught all of my working life. Most recently I was the Senior Lecturer in Music and Art in Primary Education 1989 – 2008 at Manchester Metropolitan University. Before that I was a Primary teacher and head teacher in Cheshire. I am the co-author of Teaching Music in Primary Schools and my musical activities include playing the piano and cello as well as leading singing groups of all ages. Since retirement, as well as my music activities, I have completed an undergraduate degree course in Fine Art at MMU.
I have been a governor of Manor Park primary and Nursery since 2006 and also regularly volunteer in school.
Esther Holden - Staff Governor
I was born and raised in Knutsford and moved back here after university to bring up my own family. I have four children who all came to Manor Park and now attend Knutsford Academy where they are continuing to thrive as they did here at Manor Park.
I worked locally as an Ofsted registered childminder for many years before starting work here at Manor Park in the Nursery and Reception classes. I was then involved in setting up our two year old provision which I currently lead.
I have been an active member of the M.P.S.A since my oldest child first started in the Nursery and was previously a member of the governing body as a parent governor.
I believe that it is important for children to enjoy their time at school in order for them to reach their full potential as they grow up.
Rev Paul Deakin – Co-opted Governor
I entered ordained ministry later in life after completing 30 years in design engineering in the aerospace and automotive industries. I recently moved to St Cross as the Vicar from Bramhall, where Angela and I brought up our four sons.
As well as being involved in youth work and Scouting, I served the Bramhall High School PTA as the Chairman. In accepting an invitation to join the governing body of the school, I am confident that my pastoral ministry and experience of helping youngsters to achieve their potential will help me to make a positive contribution to the life of the school.
Cathryn Walley – Parent Governor (Vice Chairperson)
I became a Parent Governor of Manor Park School during spring 2016. This followed 3 years of active involvement with the Manor Park School Association, for which I am currently Secretary.
After graduating in Physics from Manchester University in 1996, I joined the Knutsford based Engineering and Project Management company NNC, which is now AMEC Foster Wheeler, and within a few years became a Chartered Physicist. Since then, I have undertaken a variety of commercial and project management roles within the company, predominantly for large nuclear engineering contracts.
I have a daughter in Key Stage 2 and a son in Key Stage 1. My aim is to work with my fellow Governors and Teaching Staff to continually improve standards of teaching and academic achievement, whilst maintaining our existing happy learning environment. Outside of work and school, I enjoy running with my young spaniel and spending time with my family.
C. Lee. K. Williams -Parent Governor- (Pastoral Committee Chairperson)
I have been a Parent Governor since May 2016 and I sit on the Resources sub-group, chair the community sub-group and assist the safeguarding Governor.
I am a pharmacist, running our family pharmacy in Knutsford and I sit on a committee of pharmacists representing the interests of pharmacy owners across Cheshire and Wirral. This has given me skills and experience that I can use to push Manor Park School towards its aspirations.
I often help with after school sports clubs and strongly believe that sport provides young people with the important skills needed to progress and reach or even surpass their potential.
Lesley Dalzell-Community Governor-
I have lived in Knutsford for 47 years. I am retired but worked mostly in medical education latterly for a local company who produce revision courses and books for junior doctors taking membership exams of their chosen specialty.
I have seven grandchildren living locally aged 2 years to 19 years. Five grandchildren attend three of Knutsford’s schools and one granddaughter attends Manor Park School.
I was a qualified ASA swimming teacher and taught at Knutsford Swimming Club for many years. I have recently worked voluntarily with two local schools helping children with their understanding of punctuation and reading. We also produced a weekly newspaper with events taken from CBBC Newsround. I also helped with IT classes.
Old School Project: I am a member of this project committee which launched a new programme (‘Old School’) to partnership the Academy with the Knutsford U3A to bring together senior members of the local community and Year 9 students. The group met weekly and worked in pairs looking at the differences between being at school now and in the past. Following the success of this experience we are already working with new seniors and Year 9 students to run another Old School.
Knutsford Neighbourhood Plan: I have been part of this plan for two years as Chair of the Education and Community Places Working Group. The WGs objective is to have emerging policies that support the access to and provision of services and facilities including additional school places to meet local need and public meeting places.
I believe children will absorb knowledge and mature in the thriving learning environment offered to students at Manor Park Primary and Nursery.
Jennifer Hopkinson- Community Governor
I am a former primary school teacher and have taught in a variety of settings, most recently at a free school in inner city Manchester. I am now working to establish my own charity that connects high achieving pupils with bursary places at leading independent schools. My favourite part of the job is getting to know families and mentoring pupils to support them as they transition from primary into secondary school.
I am passionate about helping children to realise their potential and hope that in my role as Governor at Manor Park I can work with the other Governors, teachers and families to help create a happy school where teachers love to work and children love to learn….thank you for having me on board!
Richard Woollam - Community Governor
I initially trained as an accountant with British Airways and have had a varied business career across my working life, ranging from Director General of Cable Communications to owning a property business in South West France for the last 17 years.
Now back in the UK with a home in Broken Cross, I am the Managing Director of a small business based in Macclesfield providing promotional branded work and leisure wear to local businesses and other organisations across the region.
Elaine, my wife of 33 years and I have brought up three children, our son, 31, is based in Oslo and our two daughters 29 and 27 still live and work in France.
