Spring Term

Welcome to the Spring Term in Team Mercury.

We had an amazing first term in school and we are sure the children will continue to make fantastic progress as we head towards the third and final term!

We will start this term with our project of

'Munch, Crunch, Explore: What's on your Plate?'

We will be exploring how we celebrate with food, where our food comes from and how we keep heathly, including teeth cleaning. (The Spring Term newsletter is below with more information.)

We will visit the local Co-op to buy cooking ingredients and we are planning a local walk to visit places to buy different foods.

Dates for the Diary......Chester Zoo trip Monday 9th February. (Please ensure the permission slip has been returned.)

Parent Assembly Friday 20th March.

Our 'Pathways' book for our English lessons will be the traditional tale of  'The Naughty Bus' by Jan and Jerry Oke. We will be exploring new ending to the story and new adventures for the Naughty Bus!

In Maths we will be begining to use 'Part, Part, Whole' model to explore addition and subtraction as well as numbers beyond 10.

PE

Please can all PE Kits be in school throughout the school week. Our PE session will take place on a Wednesday throughout this term. Please can all items be clearly labelled. We will send the kits home at the end of term to be washed and returned.

Water bottles & Snack

Please can all children bring in a labelled water bottle for them to use throughout their day at school. A small snack should be brought in daily to be kept in your child's tray (No nuts.) Fruit is provided daily in for the children to eat in the afternoon.

Homework

The children will be sent home with their "Home News" book every other friday. (We also try to send this at every half term or holiday break.)

The children loved to share their "Home News" with the class. This should include photos/drawing (by your child) & writing. As the year progresses we encouarge the children to 'have a go' at the writing themselves.

Homework across the school is set on a Friday and due on a Wednesday.

Reading

It is expected that children will "read" at home at least 5 times a week, please support children to log this in their planners. Children are encouraged to listen to story read by an adult, sibling or friend for pleasure as well as read independently from the RWI books at their level provided weekly. Planners will be checked every Friday. 😊

Planners/ Messages

At any time, if you need to speak to us, please either write a note in your child’s planner (give it to your child as they walk into school or they will not get seen until Friday) or contact the school office by telephone or e-mail. I will get in touch as soon as possible.

"Seesaw"  is a great way of you being able to keep updated with what the children are doing at school as well as sending messages.
