Welcome to Summer Term in Year 3
I hope you have had a lovely Easter break and are feeling energised and are looking forward to more Year 3 learning.
Take a look at what Year 3 will be up to this term:
Maths
Throughout this term we will be using Power Maths to focus on:
- Fractions
- Time
- Angles and property of shape
- Mass and capacity
English
This term in English we will be using 'Alba the hundred year old fish' written by LAra Hawthorne to help inspire and fuel our imaginations to write a non-chronological report in the form of an information board. We will then use a book called 'A stage full of Shakespeare stories' written by Angela McAllister to write a paly script based upon Julius Caesar. These will support us to build our skills in Grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and composition.
Projects
This term our Projects are:
Science - Sound
First this term, we will be exploring sound. We will be investigating how sound is made as well as finding patterns between the pitch and the object that has made the sound.
Geography and history - Greece
Our other projects this term will be within the subject’s history and geography. We will be studying the climate and location of Greece compared to the United Kingdom. In history we will be studying ancient Greece, we will be looking at what life was like and what influence they have had on the world.
PE
Our PE lesson are Tuesday and Friday every week. Please can PE kits be in school and labelled with your child’s name.
Homework
Homework will be set on Ed Shed, this will include spellings, maths and grammar. Homework will be set on Fridays and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday. There will also be Times Table Rock stars (TTRS), your child will have their own individual login for both Ed Shed and TTRS these can be found in the front of their planners.
Reading
Please support the children to read their Accelerated Reader books for 20 minutes each day at home. Planners will be checked regularly and house points will be awarded to children who record what they have read in their planners.
Planners/ Messages
Please ensure your child’s planner is in school every day. If you wish to deliver a message to me please use the planner as a form of communication but make sure they remember to hand it to me that morning so as to guarantee I see the message.
